2024 FMCIC General Conference

2024년 4월 25~28일까지 4일간 저와 저희 교회가 소속된 Free Methodist in Canada(캐나다 자유감리교단) 전체 목회자와 리더십 제너럴 컨퍼런스가 열렸습니다. 매 3년마다 열리는 큰 행사이고, 지난 6년간 감독직을 맡아서 섬겼던 Bishop Cliff 목사님께서 사임을 하시고 새롭게 선출된 Bishop Linda 목사님이 감독직을 맡게 되는 날이기도 했습니다. 2021년에는 안타깝게도 코로나 상황으로 온라인 줌을 통해서 제대로 된 컨퍼런스를 경험하지 못했습니다. 그래서 저에게는 이번 컨퍼런스의 참여가 큰 감동이었습니다. 하나님께서 왜 저를 이 교단으로 부르셨고, Free Methodist 라는 무브먼트에 함께 하도록 하셨는지 깊게 깨닫게 되는 시간이었습니다. 무엇보다 함께 교제하고 하나님의 꿈과 비전을 나눌 수 있는 동역자들이 있어서 행복하고 귀한 시간이었습니다.

 

컨퍼런스에 관한 사진과 영상을 공유하려고 하는데요. 이 글에는 특별히 이번에 감독직에서 사임하게 되시는 클리프 감독님과 칼린 사모님에 대한 사진을 공유합니다.

 

지난 6년 두번의 임기동안 감독직을 맡아 섬긴 클리프 감독님과 사모님의 대한 이야기입니다. 한 교단의 탑 리더의 자리가 얼마나 외롭고 힘든 자리일지 감히 상상도 하지 못하겠습니다. 캐나다 전역에 있는 150여개의 교회를 살펴야 하고 돌봐야 합니다. 저희 교단의 수만명의 성도들을 섬겨야 하고, 매년 시기 때마다 열리는 교단 행사를 주관하고 진행해야 합니다. 교단과 파트너십을 맺고 있는 기독교 기관들과 선교사들.. 그리고 교단 본부의 수많은 직원들을 관리하고 섬겨야 합니다. 이렇게 많은 일을 감당해야 해서 그럴까요? 저는 이 감독님을 칭찬하는 사람보다 감독님에 대한 불평이나 불만을 하는 사람들의 이야기를 더 많이 들어왔습니다. 감독님께서는 지난 6년간 교단 내에서 발생되는 수많은 문제와 갈등을 책임지고 해결해야 하는 어려움 속에 있으셨습니다. 그럼에도 끝까지 자신에게 맡겨진 사명을 잘 감당한 감독님에게 감사를 표현하고 싶습니다. 저를 이 교단에 소속될 수 있도록 받아주시고, 또 때때로 저의 사역과 목회를 격려 해주시던 감독님을 잊지 못할 것 같습니다.

From April 25 to 28, 2024, a four-day General Conference was held for all pastors and leaders of the Free Methodist Church in Canada, the denomination to which both I and my church belong. This is a major event that takes place every three years, and it also marked the transition of leadership as Bishop Cliff, who had served faithfully for the past six years, stepped down from his role, and Bishop Linda was newly elected.

 

Unfortunately, in 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we were unable to experience the conference properly and had to attend via Zoom. That’s why participating in this year's conference was deeply meaningful and moving for me. It was a time when I came to a deeper realization of why God called me to this denomination and how He has led me to be a part of the Free Methodist movement.

 

Above all, I was thankful and joyful to have co-laborers with whom I could share in fellowship and in God's dreams and vision. It was a precious time.

 

I'd like to share some photos and videos from the conference. In this post, I’m sharing pictures especially dedicated to Bishop Cliff and his wife Karleen, as he concludes his service as bishop.

 

Bishop Cliff served as bishop for two terms over the past six years. I can’t even begin to imagine how lonely and challenging it must have been to be the top leader of a denomination. He was responsible for overseeing and caring for over 150 churches across Canada, serving tens of thousands of members, and organizing annual denominational events. He also had to manage relationships with our partner Christian organizations and missionaries, as well as oversee the many staff members at the denominational headquarters.

 

Perhaps because the burden of responsibility is so great, I often heard more criticisms than praise directed at the bishop. Over the past six years, he had to bear the weight of numerous problems and conflicts within the denomination. Still, I want to express my deep gratitude to Bishop Cliff, who faithfully carried out his calling to the very end. I will never forget how he welcomed me into this denomination and at times encouraged my ministry and pastoral work.
